Zach Ferrara

Acoustic blend of entrancing grooves, spacious harmonies, and multidimensionally layered textures uniting multiple styles of contemporary, world and classical music.

Continuance is a blend of entrancing grooves, spacious harmonies, and multidimensionally layered textures. It is a uniting of multiple contemporary, world and classical music styles. Ferrara’s precisely structured compositions manifest the acoustic vibrations of the guitar, bass, and sitar. Improvised solos and meditation pieces provide spontaneity and balance to the precomposed nature of the works found on this album. Ferrara celebrates and reflects on a quarter century of existence with this release. All compositions are original works performed in their entirety by Zach Ferrara.

Gypsy Roots

Zach Ferrara

Gypsy…World…Latin…Jazz…Funky…Blues…Music…

‘Gypsy Roots’ is the result of Ferrara’s further excavations into the world of music. Digging further into the timeless music of the past informs the song selections for this CD. Traditional European Gypsy songs such as the “Waves of the Danube” from Romania and “Two Guitars” from Russia; Classical pieces arranged from piano for guitar including “Prelude in E minor” and “Odeon”; and Jazz works such as “Avalon” and the original “Zach’s Blues” illustrates the diversity of pieces that Ferrara weaves seamlessly into one ‘sound’ on this album.

Recorded in the Summer of 2019 in Catskill, NY. Performed (Guitars & Bass), Arranged, Recorded, Mixed, Produced, and Album Design by Zach Ferrara.

Zach Ferrara

Zach Ferrara

Traditional gypsy swing, jazz, and latin music played in contemporary styles.

This self titled release is a collection of Ferrara’s favorite classics from the gypsy swing, jazz and latin jazz repertoire. Orchestrated in a trio setting consisting of two guitars and bass, lead guitarist Zach Ferrara interprets music from the masters of these genres in his own style. As to be expected in this realm of music, a large emphasis on exciting improvisation is found throughout the entirety of this album. Out of a desire to incorporate as much diversity in how these songs are played led to recording a mix of up tempo swing pieces such as “Swing 48,” to latin jazz compositions such as “Wave,” a funk take on “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” a finger style ballad version of “Nuages” and many more unexpected surprises. All songs were recorded at his home studio in the Catskill Mountains, just outside of New York City in the Summer of 2017.

Zach Ferrara Octet

Zach Ferrara Octet

All original jazz compositions ranging in style from blues to hard bop to modal jazz!

‘Octet’ is electric bassist Zach Ferrara’s debut release as a leader. From front to back, all compositions are original works ranging in style from blues to hard bop to modal jazz. The group was tracked live in the studio, making for a very natural recording process that stays true to how an album of this sort would have been produced in previous years. Ferrara drives the seven other musicians through four long take tunes filled with heavy swing, energy, purpose, and stunning solos from very thoughtful improvisors. He is joined by drummer Gabriel Gordon, percussionist Mike Hickey, saxophonists Wayde Dazelle and Dan Denette, trumpeter Zach Schrowang, pianist Kevin Carey, and guitarist Jared Dirolf; all of who are names to remember. This record would sit well in any jazz collection.
